Frameless Shower Enclosures
When buying Frameless Glass Shower Enclosures, customers are aware they may be expensive, but still they want a reasonable price. What most customers are not aware of are the many factors and choices that dramatically affect the cost; this is why price differs from one supplier to another. Every industry has different qualities (good- better-best) and your purchase of these few pieces of glass, a few pieces of metal, and some hardware do also. More glass is being used in the home today, especially bathrooms. Everyone wants frameless enclosures: all glass, very little hardware, and no metal header across the top. While we want to satisfy these wants, our first concern is safety. How will all this glass stay up without proper support? Is there proper support in the walls to secure the enclosure? Hardware makes a difference, especially when there is NO header! Excellence of installation has always been a priority. I believe that the technician who measured should be the one to install, and all our installations are performed by trained employees of Banner glass Shelmar.
We are a family run company and be assured that you will find a member of our family to talk to at either location, whether it be myself, my sons Mark, Joe, and Rich, my sister Barbara, or Dana, who I consider my fourth son after working in the glass business together for over 30 years.
Over the past few years, I’ve seen major changes in the industry that prompts me to write this explanation of our personal mission statement and the differences in Frameless Shower Enclosures. You are preparing to buy an expensive product and should be advised by the company that you are preparing to do business with as to the difference in products, their staff’s expertise and knowledge of Frameless Shower Enclosures, and who is doing the installation. Are their installers properly trained and insured? Do they have their Massachusetts Home Improvements Contractors License number on their paper work as required? You should know if you are dealing with a reputable company! Make sure to ask for references of homeowners and contractors they have worked with. This is an important decision for you!
Now comes the most important part: why there are differences in frameless shower door prices from one retailer to another!
“CHOICES”
As I stated earlier, my mission has always been to offer the highest quality materials at a reasonable price, which I have done. The introduction of our Starlite Collection Series of Frameless Shower Doors 5 years ago exemplifies this by offering the best quality available at a reasonable price. Our most popular frameless enclosure, the Starlite comes in 3/8” or 1/2” glass. All glass in our Starlite Collection is cut and tempered to fit within 1/8” of your opening! Starlite hinges are made from solid brass that is machined to our exact specifications, making it stronger than the standard hinge made from cast brass. Most important, the Starlite Collection comes with a 10 year warranty on all hardware. Starlite enclosures are usually made with pivot hinges, which means there will be a hinge at the top and one under the bottom edge of the door. We find pivot hinges to be the best in the industry since the weight of the door sits on the bottom hinge. When the weight of the door transfers to the base, it allows the door to open and close much easier than wall mount hinges. A door using pivot hinges will always feel much lighter than a door that hangs from the wall!
However, similar looking hardware and foreign products have inundated our industry. Many are good but some are not. Many are priced less than what we consider the industry’s best quality. New competitors have entered the shower door business, some with limited knowledge of this business. We have seen hardware of a lower quality hit the market from many sources. Some basic hardware may cost less than our best hardware but they do have limitations. This is especially important when you want a shower enclosure with no header and the door needs to hinge off a panel. The savings on this hardware are usually passed on to you, but at what expense if the hardware is subprime for your use? In the long run are you getting what you want and really saving money?
This has led us to investigate many different styles and manufacturers of shower door hardware. After careful research, we are proud to announce that we can now offer another model of frameless enclosures along with our best Starlite Collection Series: our new Baseline Series is comparable to the frameless shower enclosures of many of our competitors at a comparable price point. We still design both enclosures in house, and both are made with 3/8” or 1/2” glass. We have spent a lot of time researching and choosing the best hardware for our Baseline Series. The hinges are usually wall mounted and made from cast brass, rather than the solid brass hinges the Starlite Series uses. Cast brass is still considered a good product, just not as strong as a solid brass hinge. The average hardware in the Baseline Series, carries a 1 – 3 year warranty, depending which hinges are chosen, where our Starlite Collection Series carries a 10 year warranty.
